The trail made a sharp bend and as Farley and I rounded the curve,we came upon this spectacular performance by the young Long Leaf Pine family, standing there on the beautiful forest stage, in their own bright spotlight, courtesy the powerful, nourishing sun.
We only got to watch one act, as we didn’t have time to catch the entire play, but what a brilliant performance they put on, glistening in the light, swaying in the breeze, reaching toward the heavens with all their might. I would have loved to see the act where they dance in the rain, but we had promises to keep, and miles to go before we sleep.

Farley on our camping trip, May 1, 2019 at Lake Rayburn in the Angelina Forest, Texas, getting ready to hit the trails!
"Farley" -- born in Virginia, brought to Texas as a weanling, raised in the piney woods of East Texas, not started under saddle until he was 5 years old, he is a direct son of the famous speed racking stallion Rowdy Rawhide (by the legendary EZD Falcon Rowdy) and out of a registered Standardbred mare. Farley has a beautiful compact, sturdy build with wonderfully hard, healthy hooves, a sloping shoulder, a round hindquarters and a gorgeous tiny head. He has never been sick or injured, and we have camped and ridden him in Texas, Colorado, Mississippi in the forests, the lakes and at the Gulf of Mexiico in the ocean. Farley will slow walk like a Quarter Horse, and you can squeeze your legs and ask him to gait, and he will float up into the easiest four-beat rack. He will coast along at normal gaited horse speeds (6 or 7 mph) or you can really crank him up to about 16 or 17 mph, with the potential to get even faster with daily workouts toward that goal. He actually has a wonderful, smooth canter but we don't let him do it often in an effort to increase his racking speed. Farley had all of his vaccinations (VEWT, Flu/Rhino, West Nile) on 9/8/19, and he is currently barefoot. He has only been shod twice in his life, when we camped in rocky areas, including the Colorado Rocky Mountains. $7500
